How does massage help with Anxiety and Depression?
Firs and foremost, we must acknowledge that our physical and emotional selves truly are just one. Meaning, whatever is going on with our emotions WILL present its self in our physical body. Through massage we are able to allow your body to relax, bring you back to your body and help alleviate the aches and pains that come up with these emotions.
Is massage supposed to hurt?
The answer is NO. If you are in pain during our massage, please speak up. I work with a pain scale of 1-10 where I teach you where your comfortable pressure is and how to communicate to with me so that we provide you with the best massage without pain.
Do I have to be completely undressed to receive massage?
No. Though massage with lotion is what I typically perform, I have enough tools under my belt to be able to provide a great massage over clothing. If you are concerned of being exposed, I will assure you that my draping is pretty impeccable and the only part of your body that would be undraped would be the part of the body that we are working on at the moment. After completing assessments, I will step out of the room so that you ca undress to your comfort lever and give you a minute to get settled on the massage table.
Is there any reason why I should NOT receive massage?
Yes, that is why it is so important to fill out your intake form a minimum of 24 hours prior to your appointment. I will review said intake form and will communicate with you if there is a reason why you should not receive massage or if the session should be modified. Contraindications may include some medications or medical conditions. Depending on your condition, a Doctors note may be required.
How will I feel after my massage?
This all depends on the desired outcome for your session. You may experience relaxation, pain relief or maybe even energized. Depending on the type of work, you might feel slight soreness due to the amount of work on one area and the amount of blood flow brought in. This will disappear within 48 hours of your massage and the full effects of the massage will be present.
